Overview

Michael Eagle is a World Champion Scottish and Breton percussionist who operates out of New York City, NY as an independent musician, educator, composer, clinician, manager, and consultant. Mr. Eagle has performed all over the US as well as Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Scotland, England, France, China, and South Korea. Michael’s diverse performance career spans many genres including orchestral, chamber, solo marimba, Scottish pipe band, Breton Bagad, Irish session, West African drumming, Middle Eastern music, steel pan, ancient American drumming, contemporary American drumming, rock, pop, fusion, and music theater

Michael’s current positions include owner of Eagle Artist Management from New York City, NY; Section Leader for Gallant Entertainment Inc, facilitator of professional drumline services for the New York Knicks, New York Giants, New York Jets, New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils sports teams; Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Albany; member or the World Champion Bagad Cap Caval from Brittany, France; Music Director for RVI from his native Northwest Arkansas; and he is the Pipe Band Products Specialist/Sales Representative for Innovative Percussion, Inc. His original projects largely fuse different facets of world music and various styles of rudimental drumming via chamber percussion to rock and funk groups.

Mr. Eagle received his MM from the University of Texas at Austin and his BA in education, performance and composition from the University of Arkansas. During and since his years of study, he has performed with many ensembles including the Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps, Phantom Regiment, Leigh Howard Stevens‘ summer marimba seminar, the 2006 Debussy Congress, PCI’s Procrastinators, Canada’s Tartan Terrors, and the world famous Chieftains. He is the former Drum Sergeant for the Grade I Oran Mor Pipe Band from Albany, NY, and created the first online school for Scottish pipe band drumming.

As an educator, Michael has taught public school in both Arkansas and Texas where his ensembles and students received numerous accolades and national recognition. He has taught at and/or composed music for dozens of school districts all over the country. At the university level Mr. Eagle taught at the University of Texas as well as New York University. Mr. Eagle has presented clinics and workshops on various percussive and musical topics at Day’s of Percussion, Percussive Arts Society events, PASIC 2011, PASIC 2014, college lecture series’, and public school presentations. Michael is also a faculty member of the Balmoral School of Piping and Drumming. Specifically, he is dedicated to sharing and promoting the art of Scottish drumming to American music students and audiences of all ages.

In addition to annual score writing for various drumlines and bagpipe bands, Michael composes original works and arrangements for various percussion instruments. His works are published by Bachovich Publications (www.bachovich.com) and performed by his original performance groups Axiom Percussion (www.AxiomPerc.com), The Eagle|Gibson Duo, and The Ruff Drags Drum Corps. Mr. Eagle has also written several percussion theater stage shows including original programs for Canada’s Tartan Terrors and the Wal-Mart International Shareholder’s Convention.

Michael is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), American Federation of Musicians (Local 802), and the Beethoven Society. He is a PAS Reviewer, regular contributor the The Voice magazine, and a percussion adjudicator for USBands/YEA!.
