Reference Snare Drums
Reference Series wood snare drums feature 20 ply shells
with 6 inner plies of Birch and 14 outer plies of Maple, making
it one of the loudest wood snare drums available. The 6 inner
plies of Birch provides cut and attack while the outer 14 plies
of Maple provide warmth and solid midrange punch. The shell’s
45° bearing edge provides minimum head dampening for intense
crack and attack.
Reference Series Snare wood drums are available in
3 shell sizes to suit individual preferences and tastes: 14"x
5", 14"x 6.5" and 13"x 6.5". All feature pivoting lugs to assure
perfect tension rod alignment for maximum resonance, MasterCast
die cast hoops, SR-1000 GlideLock strainer, and UltraSound snares.
The SR-1000 GlideLock strainer features a locking
lever that will not disengage no matter how hard you play yet
releases easily with a push of a button. The snare tension knob
also locks to retain snare tension settings. Simply push and
turn the knob to adjust and release to lock. Special low-friction "bearings" and
high precison castings assure smooth, gliding action.
The SN-1420D/SN-1320D UltraSound snares feature
graduated tension with looser snares at the sides and tighter
snares in the center. The looser snares respond to the lightest
touch while the tighter snares keep their focus during loud play
thus giving UltraSound snares extended sensitivity and dynamic
range.
Reference Series wood snare drums are available in
6 dynamic finishes: Purple Craze, Granite Sparkle, CopperFire
Sparkle, Scarlet Fade, Twilight Fade, Rootbeer Fade, and NEW Crystal Rain.
For 2006, Pearl is proud to introduce two new metal Reference Series snare drums that redefine the reference standard for metal snare drums just as our wood Reference Series snare drums did for wood snare drums.
The RFS-1450 14”x5” and RFS-1465 14”x6.5” feature 3mm seamless cast steel shells for unbelievable projection, crispness, and sensitivity.
The RFB-1450 14”x5” and RFB-1465 14”x6.5” feature 3mm rolled and welded brass shells with the same amazing projection, crispness, and sensitivity as its steel sibling but with a warmer tone.
Both feature Reference pivoting lugs for perfect tension rod alignment, MasterCast die cast hoops, SR-1000 Glide Lock strainer with locking lever that prevents the throwoff from disengaging no matter how hard you play, and UltraSound SN-1420D Graduated Tension Snares for extended dynamic range and sensitivity.

UltraCast Snare Drums
If you are like most drummers, your ideal snare sound lives somewhere
between wood and metal shell drums. You switch between the two, because
they both sound great. You like the bright cutting projection and
pronounced hi-end crack of a metal shell, but sometimes you just
can’t live without the warmth, body and bottom that only comes
from a wood shell drum. If this is starting to sound familiar, one
listen to our all UltraCast Snare Drum will seem like a dream come
true. UltraCast offers everything you want in a snare sound, all
of the time.
UltraCast is our exclusive precision milled,
cast aluminum shell snare drum. At 3mm thick, this is one of
the thickest metal drums you’ll find. Aluminum is a relatively
soft metal and provides the warm, round, full bodied tone of
a wood shell snare. But it is after all, a metal shell, so you
get all the crack, volume and projection you can handle. No other
snare drum can offer this perfect compromise between wood and
metal. Since UltraCast is a milled cast aluminum shell, its bearing
edges are precision cut and perfect every time. This provides
ease of tuning and perfect head seating around the entire circumference
of the drum. And speaking of tuning integrity, all tension bolts
on UltraCast are precision turned Stainless Steel.
UltraCast
snare drums are outfitted with our SN-1420C UltraSound graduated
tension snares. The end plates are "C" shaped
with the center snares looser than the outside snares. The looser
snares respond to the lightest touch while the tighter snares
keep their focus during loud play thus giving UltraSound snares
extended sensitivity and dynamic range.
The
look of UltraCast is also much different. Its all black lacquered
coated shell, tube lugs, and SuperHoop II Rims will quickly become

Since their introduction in 1993, Pearl's Masters
Custom MMX snare drums have earned worldwide acclaim for their
deep, full-bodied sound reminiscent of classic vintage snare
drums thanks to their thin 4 ply, 5mm 100% maple shells with
4 ply with 5mm maple glue rings.
The MMX 1465SD features a 14"x6.5" 4
ply maple shell with 4 ply reinforcement rings, MasterCast die
cast hoops, 20 CL-100 lugs, SR-015 Gladstone-style strainer,
and ultra-precise Stainless Steel tension rods and brass receivers.
The 14"x6.5" MMX 1465S and 14"x5.5" MMX
1455S feature 4 ply maple shells with 4 ply reinforcement rings,
MasterCast die cast hoops, bridge lugs, SR-015 Gladstone-style
strainer, and ultra-precise Stainless Steel tension rods and
brass receivers.
MRX Masters Custom snare drums feature thicker 6 ply 7.5mm, 100%
maple shells producing extra "horespower" for incredible

BRX Masters Studio snare drums feature 6 ply
birch 7.5mm shells producing crisper--almost "metal-like"--highs

1455S feature 6 ply birch shells, MasterCast die cast hoops,
bridge lugs, SR-017 vertical-pull strainer, and ultra-precise

The NEW Masters Studio BSX shares all the features and sound of the BRX but with super-glittery Delmar wraps with real glass particles embedded in the finish. Two models are available, the BSX 1455S 14"x5.5" and BSX 1465 14"x6.5" both with 6 ply birch shells, MasterCast die cast hoops,

MHX Masters Mahogany Classic snare drums feature
4 ply 5mm 100% African Mahogany shells with 4 ply 5mm maple glue
rings. Once commonly used for making shells, African mahogany
all but disappeared until Pearl revived this wonderful wood in
1995. African mahogany produces the richest and deepest sound
of any wood used in the drum industry today.

Free Floating Snare Drums
Pearl’s Free Floating
System Snare Drums have remained among the best selling and
most widely used snare drums, year after year, for well over
a decade. The "Free Floating" concept of removing
all hardware from the shell is an extremely effective way of
increasing the amount of coloration of each shell material
to maximize its contribution to the overall sound of the drum.
Pearl’s Free Floating System also allows you the option
to swap shells as easily as changing a batter head. An aircraft
quality aluminum alloy bottom edge ring is machined to provide
perfect seating with the shell and is precision cut to offer
the most stable, sensitive, responsive snare bed imaginable.
All of the drum's hardware is attached to the edge ring, including
the throw-off, allowing the shell to resonate unrestricted.
For 2005, the Free
