
Internationally recognised as being one of the top pipe bands in the world, the FMMPB is now playing a full Corp of Pearl pipe band drums. During the season last year the band were incredibly successful winning 4 out of 5 of the major championships at Grade 1, including The Worlds, British, European and Cowal competitions. They also won the All-Ireland Championships, the Ulster Championships and were awarded the 2002 RSPBA Champion of Champions prize.
In 2002 the drum Corp were overall runners up in the World Championships and took 1st place in the medley section. They also won several key competitions including the best drums at the European Championships, the Ulster Championships, the Co. Down Championships & the Malahide festival, Dublin. They also won the Bass Best Section at the Ulster, All-Ireland and Co. Down championships. Following on from this, 3 of the band's drumming Corp competed for the world solo championships.
The band have chosen to play the 100% maple 14"X12" snare drum fitted with the new Finalist pipe band drum head and 28 strand snare wire. Finishing off the Corp is three 16x12" and one 18"x12" tenor drums plus 28"x16" bass drum all finished in #125 teal mist.
Pipe major Richard Parkes, who has also been instrumental in choosing to play the Pearl drums, is looking forward to a successful 2003 season and commented "We are delighted to be playing Pearl and eagerly anticipate moving forward together in the future".
Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band joins an already impressive list of bands who play Pearl including last year's world champions Simon Fraser University Pipe Band and Strathclyde Pipe band to name but a few.
