After graduating high school, he attended The University of North Alabama on a full music scholarship. While at the university, he participated in the marching band, concert band, percussion ensemble, and most importantly the jazz band; in which, he began to really hoan his drumset skills. After graduating with degrees in management and marketing, Melly worked in corporate America for seven years before deciding to make music his sole career.
Melly now makes his home in the metro Atlanta area. In his illustrious career, he has had the honor of working with the following artists: Gerald Albright, Roy Ayers, Helen Baylor, Oteil Burbridge, Cherrelle, Will Downing, Eric Essix, Dionne Farris, Erskine Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, David Ryan-Harris, Rohn Lawrence, Ronnie Laws,Trey Lorenz, Maysa Leak, Brian McKnight, Alexander O'neal, Francine Reed, The Indigo Girls, Kim Waters, Kirk Whalum, Johnny Gill, BBD, and Victor Wooten.
Melly's resume lists appearances on The Tonight Show, The David Letterman Show, Saturday Night Live as well as many others. He has appeared in several music videos and a can be heard on a host of recordings and movie soundtracks.

Melly is currently performing and recording with his own band, Three5Human and he is touring extensively with the legendary S.O.S. Band and dynamic R&B group New Edition.
Along with playing drums, Melly has added production and engineering to his repertoire. He has co-engineered and co-produced three projects within the last year, "Magic Dream" by William Green, "Straight From The Heart" by Toni Redd, and "Flying Below the Radar" by Three5Human.
