It
may seem like VIrgil Donati has become an overnight worldwide
success with his high profile tours, drum clinics, and recordings.
But he has dedicated countless hours to perfecting his craft
since getting his first drumset one-month before his third
birthday. Many drummers come to mind who've had a hand in
raising the bar, but it's Virgil's incredible power and flexibility,
intricate and odd-time phrasing, blinding quickness and powerful
metronomic precision that have moved him to the forefront
of the drumming community. The "Thunder From Down Under"
is probably known best for his incredible footwork. Having
developed amazing speed both with single and double-stroke
rolls on the bass drums, he is able to hold complex, odd-tome
and syncopated ostinatos at ridiculous tempos with is feet
while soloing freely and musically with his hands.
Virgil
Donati established himself as a premier session and touring
drummer in his native Australia as a member of fusion groups
Loose Change and On the Virg, a founding member of Southern
Sons, and touring acts such as Tina Arena, Tribal Tech, Scott
Henderson, Branford Marsalis, and many others. Since moving
to the United Sates, Virgil has played and recorded with Planet
X, Ring of Fire, Steve Walsh, and is setting new standards
in the L.A. studio scene. He has become known as a near-obsessively
disciplined player who sets Herculean standards for himself.
