Todd Meehan

Todd Meehan currently serves as Director of Percussion Studies and Lecturer of Percussion at Baylor University. He holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Meehan began doctoral studies at Yale in 2003 and is currently working towards completion of his DMA at the University of Texas at Austin (concurrent with his duties at Baylor). He has pursued non-degree studies at DePaul University and independent world music studies at Wesleyan University.

From 1999 to 2003 Mr. Meehan served as a founding member of So Percussion, a group hailed by the New York Times as "consistently impressive." As a member of So he worked with some of today's foremost composers including Steve Reich, David Lang, Evan Ziporyn, and James Wood and has premiered numerous chamber works for percussion. He has presented master classes and performances at universities and conservatories throughout the country including the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the Eastman School of Music, the University of Texas at Austin, Harvard University, Columbia University, and Williams College among others. Mr. Meehan can be heard performing the works of David Lang and Evan Ziporyn on So Percussion's debut, self-titled CD, released on Cantaloupe Records in 2004.

Mr. Meehan has been an active performer with professional and festival orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, including performances under conductors Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gunther Schuller, Robert Spano, Myung Whung Chung, and Peter Oundjian. In 1997 he was a fellowship recipient at the International Festival-Institute at Round Top and in 1998 and 1999 he was a fellowship recipient at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan. Mr. Meehan has performed with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Lyric Opera, and currently serves as Principal Timpanist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he regularly performs as timpanist/percussionist with the period instrument specialists of the Orchestra of New Spain (Dallas, TX).

Notable performance credits include the Bang on a Can Marathon, the BAM Next Wave Festival, Miller Theater's Composer Portrait Series, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Round Top International Festival-Institute Chamber Music Series, the Rocky River Chamber Music Series, the Open Ears New Music Series, the New England Gamelan Festival, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Additionally, he has performed live on WNYC's New Sounds hosted by John Schaefer. As a chamber musician he has presented concerts alongside members of the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo String Quartet. His principal teachers include Robert van Sice, George Frock, and James Ross. Mr. Meehan endorses the Pearl Corporation and Adams Musical Instruments.
