Umphrey's McGee at House of Blues Sunset
Umphrey's McGee at House of Blues Sunset10/30/2009Kris Myers and Umphrey's McGee rocked the sold out crowd at the House of Blues on Sunset.Kris Myers rocked a sold out House of Blues with his band, Umphrey’s McGee, last night. The popular prog/jam band has been packing the house every night on their current 2 week long West Coast run, and for good reason. With their mix of up-tempo rock fused with mellow groove and incredible musicianship, Umphrey’s McGee had the full crowd in the palms of their hands leaving them beyond satisfied but selfishly craving more.

Pearl artist Kris Myers was in his usual awe-striking form behind the drums. His perfect technique, along with his intricate notes, and creativity around the kit is bound to make even the most skeptical to stand back in amazement…and maybe even a little bit of confusion about how he’s actually doing everything. Kris is out on the road with a combination of a couple different Pearl lines. For toms and floor toms, Kris uses Master Premium birch shells, to pull out some higher notes and to get a flowing difference from drum to drum. For a little extra boom, Kris is out with a 22x18 Reference series bass drum. The mix of mahogany and maple in the shell give the added depth, bass, and warmth that isn’t traditionally found in a birch shell. For snares, a 14x6.5 Ultracast Aluminum was being used, as well as a 10x5 Pearl firecracker effect snare. With his technical style of play, the Ultracast Aluminum snare is perfect when needing a loud crack with body behind it, and also when looking to pull out ghost notes or on softer sections.

Kris and Umphrey’s McGee has a full schedule from now until January, and has some select international dates in the works as well early in 2010. For more information and to see these upcoming dates, please visit www.umphreys.com.
