Jim Casella
Jim Casella served as the percussion arranger for the six-time world champion Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps from 1996 through 2004. He received his education in percussion performance from San Jose State University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He was a member of SCV from 1989-91, and then continued with the organization to become an instructor and arranger for the Vanguard Cadets (1992-94). In 1995 he was on the percussion staff of the Concord Blue Devils, and in 1996, he became the percussion caption head and arranger for the Santa Clara Vanguard.
Casella resides in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Willow, and works as a composer/arranger for local TV and broadcast projects, as well as competitive percussion ensembles nationwide. Prior to moving to Oregon, Jim was an active player in the San Francisco bay area where he performed professionally with several symphony orchestras such as the San Jose Symphony, California Symphony, Santa Cruz County Symphony, Monterey County Symphony, and Peninsula Symphony. He currently plays drums for an eclectic jazz/rock band in Portland.
As an internationally recognized marching percussion arranger, Casella has given clinics across North America, as well as in Europe and Asia. He is the co-author of the popular percussion books, Fresh Perspectives, and Up Front, and is the producer of the Virtual Drumline sample library all by Tap Space Publications.
