Andy Harnsberger

ANDY HARNSBERGER has become one of the leading marimba performers and clinicians in the country. He has performed in a variety of settings across the United States, Europe, and Japan and presents numerous solo recitals and clinics throughout the country each year. In 1999 he released a compact disc that has been recognized by the Percussive Arts Society as "a must purchase for anyone who collects important marimba recordings·His performance makes it clear that he is a master player, not only technically, but musically as well." - Percussive Notes, vol. 38, no. 2, April 2000. In addition, the CD features his own transcriptions of Eddie Van Halen guitar solos arranged for the marimba. 

Dr. Harnsberger earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature at The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he also received the prestigious Performer's Certificate. He completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

While in Richmond, Dr. Harnsberger performed regularly as percussionist with the Richmond Symphony and Richmond Ballet Orchestras, as well as the contemporary music ensemble "Currents". He tours regularly as percussionist and xylophone soloist with The Jack Daniel's Silver Cornet Band. He has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Key West Symphony Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Macon Symphony Orchestra, Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and Carroll Symphony Orchestra. He appeared as a featured solo artist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, 2001 in Nashville, Tennessee and was featured in an article in Percussive Notes magazine titled, "Building a Career: An Interview with Andy Harnsberger." Dr. Harnsberger has also made several guest appearances on National Public Radio, both in interviews, and live performances to bring public awareness to the marimba as a solo instrument. Andy Harnsberger resides in Atlanta, Georgia and is active throughout the year as a recitalist, performing approximately 50 concerts per year. He is also in demand as a clinician across the country at many major universities. Dr. Harnsberger is a performing artist and clinician for the Pearl/Adams Percussion Corporation, Innovative Percussion, Inc., and Sabian Cymbals, Ltd.
