Cymbal Stacker
by Raymond Massey
Hello everyone! Welcome to our Tech Speak column and thank you for visiting our site. I want to introduce you to a very user-friendly product that we're really excited about, the CST-80 Cymbal Stacker.

As you can see, the CST-80 isn't your simple straight rod-type stacker that simply attaches to the tilter with limited or no adjustability.
Instead, the Pearl CST-80 is a three-part system that offers complete control of tilt, height, and rotation of the cymbals for amazing adjustability, strength, and functionality.
In this edition of Tech Speak, I'll introduce you to the features of the CST-80 and how it attaches. Then we'll move on to all of the neat stuff it can do!
CST-80
Cymbal Stacker

The above photo shows the three sections that make up the CST-80: the Bottom Tilter, Middle Tilter, and the Top Tilter. The Dual Action Connector, featured on the Top and Middle Tilter, are the secret to the CST-80's versatility. I'll explain later how they work…just wait till you see what the Dual Action Connectors can do!
The Bottom Tilter has an Upper and Lower Position Clamp that adjusts to accommodate single cymbals, hi-hats, or multi-cymbal combinations. In addition, the Position Clamps are height adjustable and can be set to match your playing style.
3 Step Set Up Guide
Step 1) Attaching the Bottom Tilter to a Cymbal Stand

Remove the Existing Cymbal Tilter on your Stand
The Bottom Tilter of the CST-80 will take the place of the existing tilter on your stand. The CST-80 fits Pearl C-800W, C-70W, B-800W, BC-800W, B-70W stands and the CH-70 cymbal holder.
Before attaching the Bottom Tilter to your stand, you need to first remove the stand's tilter. This is easily done by loosening and disconnecting the wing nut and bolt.
Set the tilter and related parts aside to complete the Top Tilter of the CST-80 later.

| The above photo shows the tilter that you removed from your stand. Set it aside for later assembly to the Top Tilter of the CST-80. |

Attach the CST-80's Bottom Tilter to the Stand
Use the supplied bolt, spring, washer, and wing nut to attach the CST-80 to the stand (where you removed the tilter) as shown above.

Attach Cymbals to the Bottom Tilter of the CST-80
Start by removing the Top Position Clamp by loosening the key bolt. Also remove the top felt washer. Set the Lower Position Clamp so it’s a little below the middle of the post; this is a good starting point for the lower cymbal height and will give you plenty of room for adjustment later if necessary.

Next add the cymbal(s). For this example, we're using a set of hi-hats however any type of cymbal or combination of cymbals: rides, crashes, china cymbals, and splashes also work great.

Apply pressure to the top felt via the Top Position Clamp and lock the cymbal to desired tension.
Step 2) Attaching the Middle Tilter to the Bottom Tilter

Now we're ready to add the Middle Tilter on to the Bottom Tilter using the Dual Action Connector. This is the good part so let me explain what this key feature can do.

The Dual Action Connector features two separate connecting holes (A) and (B).

Using hole (A) gives you up/down adjustment, 360 degrees of rotation and fore/back tilter action for virtually unlimited and exact cymbal placement.

Using hole (B) gives maximum separation between top and bottom cymbals, especially when using larger cymbals such as rides and china cymbals.
As you can see, with just with the Bottom and Middle Tilters a wide variety of set-up options are available to match your style. Now watch what happens when we add the Top Tilter to the mix!
Step 3) Attaching the Top Tilter

Now it's time to complete the CST-80 by attaching the Top Tilter. Notice that the Top Tilter also has the Dual Action Connector thus is capable of the same adjustments as the Middle Tilter shown before.
OK, let's start by attaching the original tilter from the stand to the Top Tilter of the CST-80 as shown below.

Now comes the fun part of putting it all together and making adjustments!

As shown in the above picture, using hole (A) on the Top Tilter and hole (A) on the Middle Tilter gives twice the amount of adjustability and flexibility.
I can see the wheels turning in your head already with ideas, so let's look at another example.

Here we are using hole (B) on the Top Tilter and hole (A) on the Bottom Tilter for added height of the upper cymbal while still maintaining tilt and 360 degree rotation action. But wait there's more!

You can do this! Use hole (A) on the Top Tilter and hole (B) on the Bottom Tilter. This provides lots of headroom for the lower cymbal while allowing flexible positioning of the Top Tilter. But wait there's even more!

Use hole (B) of both the Top and Bottom Tilters for maximum height while retaining tilt and 360 degree rotation action. Again we have lots of adjustments to meet specific needs. I think by now you're getting the picture.
I almost forgot, the upper cymbal is attached to the CST-80 like any cymbal. Please see the photo below.
