Setting Up Your Pearl Percussion Kit

Snare Drum Assembly

Step One:

Take the stand base and spread the legs out far enough to create a stable platform. If the legs do not open from the closed position easily, do not force them! If the wing nut is loose and the legs will still not open, try moving each leg a little at a time. Sometimes the rubber feet will cause the legs to "jam."

If the base feels secure, tighten the wing nut until snug. Always avoid over-tightening wing nuts! This could cause damage to the threads of the nut or receiver.

Step Two:

Insert the top of the stand into the base. Tighten the middle wing nut until snug.

Loosen the wing nut that holds the top "basket" and adjust the basket until level. The bracket allows for adjustment of the snare drum from flat to angled. Check with your instructor to see which angle he or she prefers.

Once the basket is set at the proper angle, tighten the wing nut until secure. Open the basket wide enough for the snare drum to fit. Adjust the width of the basket arms by using the screw adjustment if necessary.

Step Three:

Gently place the drum into the basket while avoiding contact with the snare strainer. Make sure that the drum fits completely within the rubber sleeves of the basket arms. Placing the snare drum on top of one of the basket sleeves is the number one cause of broken snare heads!

Tighten the screw adjustment until the basket is snug around the bottom rim of the drum at all three contact points.

Step Four:

Adjust the height of the drum by holding the top post with one hand while slightly loosening the middle wing nut. Once you reach the desired height, tighten the wing nut until secure.

The drum should be at about waist level.

Bell Kit Assembly

If the wing nut is loose and the legs will still not open, try moving each leg a little at a time. Sometimes the rubber feet will cause the legs to "jam."

If the base feels secure, tighten the wing nut until snug. Always avoid over-tightening wing nuts! This could cause damage to the threads of the nut or receiver.

Step Two:

Insert the top of the stand into the base. Tighten the wing nut until snug.

Step Three:

Place the bell frame onto the top portion of the stand. Turn the bell frame so that the locking nut of the stand is secure within the receiver, then tighten the wing nut until snug.

Step Four:

The bell should be at about waist level. Adjust the height of the bell by holding the top post with one hand while slightly loosening the middle wing nut. Once you reach the desired height, tighten the wing nut until secure.

If desired, unfold and place the music stand in slots provided on the bell frame.
